Sasnovich out of Madrid Open
MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 47 Aliaksandra Sasnovich lost to world number 24 Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, in the second round of the Madrid Open. The match lasted for two hours and 45 minutes, BelTA has learned.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich won a close two-setter, 6-4, 7-5, over world number 1,088 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the opener.
Earlier, former world number one Victoria Azarenka, currently No.16, lost to world number 54 Alycia Parks of the United States, 2-6, 6-7 (5-7), in her opening match.
Belarus’ world number two Aryna Sabalenka will face world number 115 Camila Osorio of Colombia in the third round. In the opener the Belarusian defeated world number 44 Sorana Cirstea of Romania, 6-4, 6-3. In 2021 Aryna Sabalenka won the tournament in Madrid.
This year the tournament in Madrid will be over on 7 May.
