Minsk designated as CIS Capital of Sports in 2023

MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) — Minsk has been designated as the CIS Capital of Sports in 2023, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik said following the meeting of the CIS Ministerial Council held in Samarkand, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Among others, the ministers considered humanitarian cooperation and Minsk was chosen as the CIS Capital of Sports in 2023, Sergei Aleinik noted.
«We informed our colleagues about the status of preparations for the II CIS Games which will be held in Minsk in August. The Games will feature not only the countries – members of the Commonwealth of Independent States but also about 15 other countries that have already confirmed their participation,» he continued.
«We are determined to show these Games as a golden standard for depoliticization of sports, a model event aimed at the development of the international sports movement,» Sergei Aleinik said.
