MINSK, 28 April (BelTA) — Despite sanctions, tourism in Belarus is booming, Belarusian Sports and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk said at the trade unions tourism forum Discover Belarus on 28 April, BelTA has learned.

“The figures we have are impressive. Despite the sanctions against Belarus, we have a significant increase in funds,” Sergei Kovalchuk said.

In his words, about 5 million tourists visited Belarus in 2022, which is much more than in 2021. The export of tourist services increased as well.

“We are reaching the pre-pandemic 2019 level. Trade unions are playing a big role in this,” Sergei Kovalchuk said.

The potential for trade unions tourism is high. “Just take a look at how many people have arrived at the exhibition today! Last year there were fewer visitors and exhibitors. We can see all kinds of tourism developing in the regions, including industrial, agricultural, sanatorium, medical, and ecological ones. All of them make a big contribution to the the country’s economy,” Sergei Kovalchuk said.

He also invited everyone to attend the 2nd CIS Games which would take place in 11 cities of the country this year.

“We are an open country. We are ready to show everyone the beauty of our nature and culture,” Sergei Kovalchuk added.

The trade unions tourism forum Discover Belarus is taking place at the National Palace of Culture of Trade Unions in Minsk on 28-29 April. The forum is held under the auspices of the Belarusian Trade Unions Federation. It aims to show Belarus and its beauties which are not known even to many Belarusians. Unknown historical facts, unexplored natural riches, mysterious customs and legends, forgotten culinary traditions are represented in hundreds of tourist routes. The organizers of the event are sure that informal immersion into the history of Belarus through trips within the country will not only let everyone discover the country in a new way but also preserve all that our ancestors lived and were proud of, and pass it on to the future generations.
