Lutsky: Many Belarusians will support tree planting campaign in Khatyn

MINSK, 30 April (BelTA) — Many Belarusians will support the tree planting campaign in Khatyn, Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Igor Lutsky told the media during the 1,000 Trees of Memory event in the Khatyn Memorial Complex on 30 April, BelTA has learned.

“The president suggested it and the singers were the first to respond. It is a good thing. Everyone will be able to leave their footprints on this holy land. I think this campaign will serve as an example for many of our citizens who will also plant their trees at Khatyn. Belarusians are kind-hearted and hardworking people and I have no doubt that this project will be supported by our compatriots,” Igor Lutsky said.

According to the deputy head of the Belarus President Administration, the trees that outstanding Belarusian singers have planted today will make many people come back to this memorable place again and again. “It has been well said that everyone should plant a tree, and preferably more than one. Especially in a place like Khatyn,” he stressed.

During the nationwide subbotnik (voluntary labor day) the head of state invited Belarusians to make their contribution to the improvement of the Khatyn Memorial Complex. Cultural workers, including Belarusian honored artists, were the first to support the proposal of Aleksandr Lukashenko.

About 1,000 spruce trees were planted in Khatyn. Taking part in the campaign were Belarusian singers and also representatives of the Belarus President Administration, the Council of Ministers, the Culture Ministry and public associations. Ahead of tree planting, the participants of the campaign honored the memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War by laying flowers at the monument to the Unbowed Man and at the Eternal Flame. The participants of the event also toured the new museum in Khatyn.
