Lukashenko urges to speed up land reclamation efforts

VETKA DISTRICT, 28 April (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko urged to speed up land reclamation efforts during a working visit to Vetka District on 28 April, BelTA has learned.

“The pace of work is very slow. We have to speed it up. We still have some funds to do it, but there may not be any tomorrow. Governors should be held responsible for the work, monitor canals, dams, and regulate water regime. Your fields — your responsibility,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

He stressed that it was necessary to work very fast, especially in the areas that should be saved in the first place. “I am not talking about restoration, not about land reclamation, but about saving some areas. The hardest impression is when you see neglected fields and the lack of farming culture. This is the worst thing to see,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that the money earmarked for land reclamation should be spent effectively, and added that it was necessary to take further care of the reclaimed lands. “I want us to invest money now to make sure that our children do not have to start this work again. There must be an iron discipline. It has to be maintained. These are golden lands,” the head of state said.
