Belarus to take part in 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships
MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – Belarus is set to take part in the 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on 1-14 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus.
Competing in the tournament will be eight Belarusian athletes: Yauheni Karmilchyk (under 48kg), Dzianis Salotskikh (4under 51kg), Maksim Pankou (under 57kg), Artur Tuniyeu (under 60kg), Dmitry Deshkevich (under 63.5kg), Kiryl Samadurau (under 67kg), Aliaksandr Radzionau (under 71kg), Aliaksei Alfiorau (under 80kg). Uladzislau Smiahlikau, who reached the quarterfinal at the Tokyo Olympic Games, will not take part in this year’s world championships due to an injury. The tournament in Uzbekistan will feature over 640 athletes from 104 countries. Medal events will be held in 13 weight categories.
Belarus won two medals at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships in Serbia. Aliaksei Alfiorau clinched silver and Yauheni Karmilchyk claimed bronze.
At the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in India in March 2023 Belarus’ Yuliya Apanasovich won bronze in the -52kg weight category.
