Belarus, St. Petersburg urged to keep up cooperation pace

MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) – Belarus and St. Petersburg should not slow down the current cooperation pace. It is also necessary to secure an increase in trade volume. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the statement during the 13th session of the Belarus-St. Petersburg Business Cooperation Council, BelTA has learned.

It has been a year since the council’s previous session, which took place in St. Petersburg. Roman Golovchenko said: “Today it is necessary to evaluate results of the decisions made back then, evaluate the current state of bilateral relations, prospects for their advancement, and set concrete tasks for their further realization.”

The prime minister went on saying: “St. Petersburg is a most important partner for Belarus. 2022 saw record-high mutual trade figures. We considerably exceeded trade turnover target — $2.2 billion. Trade turnover also demonstrated good dynamics in January-February 2023 by gaining virtually 40%.”

The head of government underlined that the high results come with an additional responsibility: keep up the good pace and secure further growth of mutual trade.

Roman Golovchenko stated: “I am glad that our interaction is not restricted by some limits or borders. We don’t stop at what we’ve accomplished. We gain new areas of work, new projects. For instance, during the previous session of the council we discussed such new spheres of interaction as pharmaceutics and supplies of special fire-fighting vehicles. Today we already see certain results of those agreements.”
