Belarus seeks closer cooperation with Russia’s Siberian Federal District in agriculture

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) — Ksenia Meleshko, head of the Foreign Economic Affairs Directorate at the Agriculture and Food Ministry, detailed the cooperation between Belarus and the regions of the Siberian Federal District of Russia as she spoke to BelTA.

«Despite the considerable distance between Belarus and the Siberian Federal District, we closely work with Novosibirsk Oblast and Irkutsk Oblast. We are interested in promoting supplies to the Siberian Federal District of Russia,» Ksenia Meleshko emphasized.

According to her, in 2022 there was a steady increase in trade with Novosibirsk compared to 2021.

«This year, Belarus’ food export to Novosibirsk Oblast has increased. In the structure of exports, the dairy account for more than a half. During the visit, we organized a fair to showcase our manufacturers of meat and dairy products,» Ksenia Meleshko said.

A project to supply livestock equipment manufactured by Gomelagrokomplekt is in the works. «Prior to the visit of the government delegation, a videoconference was held to clarify some issues of cooperation. For a more detailed study of this issue, Novosibirsk companies interested in working with Gomelagrokomplekt have already confirmed their participation in the Belagro expo to learn more about products made by this Belarusian manufacturer,» Ksenia Meleshko explained.

According to her, Belarus is also developing scientific cooperation in the field of crop production with Novosibirsk. There is an agreement between the Research Center for Agriculture at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Siberian Research Institute of Plant Production and Breeding. In the course of this cooperation, crop samples are exchanged to explore their use in the breeding process.

She assured that mutual trade with Russia’s Irkutsk Oblast in Belarus is also growing. «Now we are working to step up exports and expand shipments to Irkutsk. As for promising areas, we are looking to launch shipments of veterinary drugs by Belarusian manufacturers to this market. During the visit, we signed an agreement on this matter. In addition to food, Irkutsk is also supplied with spare parts and equipment for the needs of Belarusian-made dairy farms,» the specialist summed up.

As it has been reported, a Belarusian government delegation headed by Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko is paying a working visit to three Russian regions: Novosibirsk, Irkutsk and Sverdlovsk from 26 to 28 April. According to the prime minister, Belarus effectively cooperates with the Russian Federation both at the federal and regional levels.
